Period abroad authorization: Modalities and timing of the request
Pursuant to Art. 5 paragraph 1, letter g of the Regulations of PhD Courses of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the amount of the scholarship is increased for any period of stay abroad, to the maximum extent of 50% and for a total period not exceeding:
- to 12 months for doctoral students of cycle XXXVIII and subsequent cycles*,
- to 18 months for doctoral students of the XXXVII cycle.
Therefore, a PhD student who intends to travel abroad to further his or her research and who intends to benefit from the scholarship increase should send scans of the following documents via e-mail to the PhD Office (segr.dottorati@unimore.it):
- Request for permission to stay abroad (attached document);
- Authorization from the PhD Coordinator to spend the period abroad;
- letter of invitation from the foreign institution where the research will be conducted.
If the stay abroad lasts more than six months, the authorization of the Teaching Board is also required.
All the aforementioned documents, in which the dates relating to the period of stay must coincide, must be sent to the PhD Office at least 15 days before departure.
Once back in Italy, the PhD student must send to the PhD Office a certificate or a statement from the foreign instituition involved showing the actual period spent abroad.
The grant increased during the residence abroad period is provided monthly in arrears.
* For PhD students from cycle XXXVIII onward, this period may be extended up to a maximum of 18 months in the case of co-tutorships or in dual-title paths with foreign subjects if the relevant agreements so provide.
